New partner appointments at HMT Corporate Finance

HMT Corporate Finance, the Thames Valley’s leading corporate finance adviser, has rounded off a successful year by appointing three new partners; Peter Barrand, Simon Jordan and Doug Macleod.

The appointments, which come at a time when many of its competitors continue to struggle in the difficult financial conditions, send a strong message that HMT is planning for the long term and is committed to delivering leading entrepreneurial advice to its clients.

2008 was another excellent year for HMT, advising on over 25 deals, picking up three awards at the prestigious Thames Valley Deal Awards, including Deal of the Year and Corporate Finance Adviser of the Year for Andrew Thomson and being shortlisted for the Best Tax Team in a Boutique Firm at the National Taxation Awards. 2009 has started well with eight deals closed in the first quarter and an extremely healthy pipeline.

Peter Barrand

Peter joined HMT in 2008 from PricewaterhouseCoopers and has fourteen years corporate finance expertise, covering a broad remit of both UK and overseas private and public company transactions, together with extensive venture capital and private equity deals.

He has worked in Bristol, Brussels, London and the Thames Valley and managed the Technology, Media and Telecoms Corporate Finance team for PwC.

Peter has advised on a wide range of transactions including recent deals with: Trafficmaster, Siemens, and Sage, in addition to completing Public to Privates of Civica for 3i, and Planit Holdings to August Equity. His private equity experience also includes transactions with Baird, ECI, Hg Capital, ISIS, NVM and Primary Capital.

Simon Jordan

Simon joined HMT in 1997. He has played a key role in the development of the Corporate Finance team over the last 12 years and specialises in buy side due diligence and transaction support. His experience covers corporate acquisitions both in the UK and overseas, management buy outs, growth capital transactions and viability / reconstruction investigations.

He has advised on deals across a range of sectors including medical research, travel and leisure, manufacturing and technology. He has worked on over 100 transactions since joining HMT, including nine acquisitions across Europe and the USA for Premier Research Group, a leading global contract research organisation, significant bid support work for Allied International Group and due diligence for a number of private equity houses including Acuity, Barclays Ventures, Beringea, Inflexion, ISIS, LDC, Matrix and Octopus.

Doug MacLeod

Doug started his career with Ernst & Young in the Midlands, before moving to the Thames Valley to focus on Transactional Tax in the Bristol and Reading markets.

Following a period at Tenon, where he helped to develop their Corporate Finance tax services business, Doug moved to HMT in 2003, where he was instrumental in setting up the Tax Advisory team, specialising in structuring M&A transactions both from vendor and purchaser perspectives; corporate reorganisations and reconstructions; share schemes and tax due diligence.

Doug has advised on a wide range of transactions, including the demerger and sale of Caterham Cars, various reorganisations of the Bourne Leisure Group and restructuring various portfolio companies for Chamonix Private Equity.

Andrew Thomson commented, "These promotions, which brings our total compliment to seven partners, sends a strong message of our commitment to both recruit and develop the best people in the market to ensure our clients receive unrivalled senior level experience on all transactions. Our commitment to make this investment, in what are difficult economic conditions, demonstrates the strength of HMT."
